The Ilangai Tamil Sangam of Newfoundland was founded in April 2017, with its inaugural event celebrating the Tamil New Year alongside the Ceylon Tamil community in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Our mission is to nurture and promote Tamil culture through language classes, cultural festivals, and the development of traditional art forms. We aim to enrich the younger generation by fostering skills in Carnatic music, Bharatanatyam, and musical instruments, ensuring that Tamil heritage continues to thrive in our community.
Thai Pongal 2026
Thai Pongal is a traditional Tamil harvest festival celebrated with gratitude, joy, and togetherness. Observed in the Tamil month of Thai, this auspicious occasion marks the beginning of a prosperous new season and honors the Sun God (Surya), nature, and the farmers whose hard work sustains life.
Thai Pongal 2026 is a time to come together with family and community, celebrate cultural heritage, and welcome the year ahead with hope, positivity, and gratitude.
